about

This double single marks the first recording from "Lys Guillorn & Her Band," currently a power trio consisting of Guillorn backed by longtime drummer Peter Riccio and relative newcomer to the group Eric Bloomquist on bass. The three recorded at Gold Coast Recorders in Bridgeport in the Fall of 2015. It's somewhat of a departure from Guillorn's electrified indie-folk twang. Oh, this one? It's garage rock, like Nancy Sinatra on a grunge bender. "Sunny Side Down" was inspired by a diner order by Guillorn's friend Rachelle Kreisman. "Spin Cycle," which is more about personal politics than national politics, could certainly be applicable to both. The tune came out of a songwriters' group assignment. This marks the first in a series of recordings Guillorn intends to release on Little Cowgirl and elsewhere in 2016.

Track Name: Sunny Side Down
I don’t take anything easy.
I don’t beg for mercy.
I don’t accept your good advice.
Why does everyone have to be nice?

I like it sunny side down.

I prefer misbehavior
with a sense of danger.
I’d suck the air right out of the room
just to stir up a change in the mood.

Chorus:
My bread is buttered on both sides now.
This ain’t nothin’ honey, you should see me in a crown.
I can’t be one of those people who goes to bed early
and gets up early, that’s boring.

So if you like to shiver,
then I can deliver.
We can sit alone in the dark,
so look sharp,
just as long as you know

I like it, I like it,
I like it sunny side down.

Chorus
Track Name: Spin Cycle
Turn off and turn on, turn off and turn on,
turn off and turn on, turn off and turn on.

Remind me again
the difference between
lying and spin,
go back and begin.

Manipulation of facts—
see how the public reacts
to the words and acts.
You’re hot and you’re cold but I never see you sweat.

You’re hot and you’re cold but I never see you sweat.
Remind me again how you plan to work it out.
I can’t say I haven’t been the same myself.

(remind me again)

Information control,
with an editor’s hand,
and a broadcaster’s soul—
half empty / half full.
You’re hot and you’re cold but I never see you sweat.

You’re hot and you’re cold but I never see you sweat.
Remind me again how you plan to work it out.
I can’t say I haven’t been the same myself,

but you’ll talk to me
until I see what you see,
feel what you feel.

Turn off and turn on, turn off and turn on,
turn off and turn on, turn off and turn on.
